The Salon's first ever review!

W14 Journalist writes review on our beauticians....

Having a college on our doorstep has certain advantages - last week I lunched at Taste Restaurant and this week I went to the Salon at the Hammersmith campus of Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College. The Salon trains students in Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy and Nail Technology and accepts the general public as clients at reduced rates.

You get to the Salon by entering the main college building and then the Salon has its own entrance. As I walked through the Salon I noticed students learning nail technology which includes acrylic nails and nail art. Pass the hairdressing salon and I arrived at the manicure pedicure centre. The Salon's layout and design can hold its own with any salon that I have visited. I got talking to another client Maria Pinna who said "it is a wonderful place especially as I am a pensioner. If it was not for the Salon I could not afford to have my hair done".

As the luxury manicure and pedicure started the manicurist Leen Malko gave me a good tip for dry hands and feet "put a thick layer of Vaseline on your hands\feet for three nights and use the cotton gloves and socks from the Bodyshop.
This will make the skin very soft". Farzanah Alizadah, the pedicurist also gave words of wisdom by telling me "the benefit of a pedicure is it improves blood circulation, reduces hard skin, keeps the nails healthy and improves the appearance of the feet". Both students were very professional and have dreams of opening a beauty salon.

The students are supervised by college staff and I was introduced to the Beauty Therapy Lecturer Raja Teale who beams with pride at the achievements of her young students and so she should they are very good.

Apart from manicure and pedicure there is an extensive list of treatments including shampoo and cut ?4.50. Highlights and hair extensions from ?20.00. You can have a mini facial for ?4.00, mini manicure ?3.00. eye care treatments, waxing, ultra violet tanning (3mins) ?3.00 and massages. Students are being trained so it may take slightly longer than a high street salon but the atmosphere is relaxing and the student and college staff are good company. Make a day of it by visiting the Salon in the morning for treatments followed by lunch at Taste Restaurant.
